What are some good fundraising ideas?
I'm going to go abroad with AFS to Brazil for a year in about a year. What would be some super great ideas to make some money? I think I'll need about $10,500 for tuition. and then like $1,000-$3,000 for my spending money for the year. Then I will need domestic airfare from Alaska - Miami which changes a lot. AND I will need to pay visa fees...$161...I'll have uniforms and books I'll need to buy (IDK how much yet) I'll need money for clothes...then i have some immunizations I need. I am 16 if that helps. Whoever lists the most ideas will get best answer..thanks! ...

During Christmas time, sell Mistletoes. That's our solid fundraiser, racking in about 5 grand every year. Apart from that, I would utilize the weather..get other people involved with you and set up a lemonade station or something of that sort in prime locations (not 25 cents obviously, but if done correctly, it is very effective). Check out gigs on CL..some of them offer quite a hefty reward if you have the talent to perform the task. Go door-to-door selling goods (can pick them up at your local Costco)
2 :
Try a bake sale, cookie walk, raffle tickets (have baskets with goodies to raffle off).

Should Universal Health care be passed?
Should Universal Health care be passed?
Now I know I am going to get the better of both sides on this issue, but before you answer think of this. Universal health care of "Free" as it is put actually cost us more in taxes. That means more out of your paychecks to fuel this. Now if doctors have to decide whether to work for the government making little money with lots of patients or opening private practice to make more money with less patients which will they choose? Grant it there will be those that will try and stick it out for as long as they can until they burn out. Then comes shortage of doctors for the public sector. Now Obama says that private practice will still be around , but for how long when doctors get fed up with the system? Will private practice be illegal too like in Canada? Now I understand everyone's argument that a lot of people don't have health care now , but isn't that their own fault since we have Medicare and Medicaid to help them which is free now? I actually had a few people that didn't know this. Also they say Medicaid is running out of money since the government didn't think people would live so long as they expected for people to die off much sooner. Do we really want government to watch over our health then? Not only do they have Universal health care in Canada and France but also in countries like Brazil which Brazilians will tell you that they prefer to pay for it since they will get the care that much sooner. Now who does Universal health care hurt the most in the end? The poor and average , funny how its the same people we are trying to help. Long waiting lines and private practice supply and demand go up since people need to get seen they go there instead and prices for private practice go up so only the rich get seen. Lastly tax more for the rich that make more then $250,000? For what? More Unemployment? It is the rich that have the jobs for us down here right? More cuts? More bailouts? So now that you read what do you think.. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

You wrote too much to respond to it all. But universal health care costs less money in the long run. My tax increase would be much less than what I currently pay in premiums and deductible. Doctors are fed up with insurance companies dictating how they practice, and we already are in a doctor shortage. Many have left the field. Currently the US Gov pays over 50% of all medical costs, period. And Medicare and Medicaid are not free to anyone. You have to either make less than 11,000 a year to qualify for Medicaid (which is way under poverty wages) or be 62 years or old to get Medicare. Most of the uninsured are the working poor, that barely make enough to pay rent and eat, with nothing left over for medical bills. Example: Walmart workers, they make enough to survive but not pay for health insurance. They either qualify for Medicaid or just don't pay their health care costs. Either way the US taxpayer picks up the bill. To Trinity: wait times are actually longer in the US than in Canada: http://www.ryananddebi.com/2008/12/19/healthcare-wait-times-us-vs-canada/ If you click the links attached, very well researched studies are available.

Don't forget that if said bill is passed then that means longer waits. Besides the government can't even run something as simple as the DMV and we all know this regardless of your party... so with that being said what makes everyone think the government can run health care? Also to even if private practive will be allowed it will eventually go away because with this "cheaper" government health care the rest of the doctors will lose too much money. And besides my taxes are high enough already without taking on all of America's health bills on top of that... Obama can kiss my @ss if he thinks that I will stand for it. Yea I said it, and if you have a problem with it well you can kiss my @ss too.

Didn't Obama say he wanted to get America off foreign oil?
Then why did he just give Brazil $2 Billion to start drilling there? Why not use that money to drill off of our own shores and create more jobs in America, all the while making us less dependent on foreign oil altogether?

What we've come to discover about 0bama is what he says and what he does are two entirely different things. I thought we gave our oil companies incentives to drill for oil, so why he is giving more government money to drill is beyond me.
3 :
We supposedly have more oil in Alaska than all of the middle east. Why not break those chains that bind us and drill? I'm sorry, but I just don't get how we can be giving another country 2 billion that we don't have (we're in debt, remember?) to drill off their shores when we won't drill off our own shores. How many US jobs could we create and how cheap would our oil be in comparison. I think we need to strive for all forms of energy in this country and work together for energy independence. Until we find a better way, we need oil and why not our own.

"San Bruno, CA man killed after online dating...."?
"San Bruno, CA man killed after online dating...."?
SAN BRUNO, Calif. (Oct. 31) - The lonely, divorced carpenter thought he was going to Brazil to make wedding plans. Instead, he was drugged and held captive for six days at his fiancee's home while she and another man emptied his bank accounts, according to Brazilian authorities. Then they drove the 56-year-old victim to a vacant lot, where they strangled him with copper wire, doused his body with fuel, and set it on fire, investigators say. Authorities found Raymond Merrill's charred body in April. Now, the woman he believed was his betrothed is under arrest, along with a man suspected of helping to kill him. "He would talk to me about ideal relationships and pure love," said Merrill's best friend, Bill Rauch. "With age doesn't necessarily come wisdom. He was used to doing things his way and, in the end, it did him in." For months, his family knew nothing of his horrifying end. It was only after a bungled robbery in Brazil that investigators even learned of Merrill's fate. Merrill met Regina Filomena Rachid last year through an online dating service. At the time, he was lonely and depressed, having been dumped by a Las Vegas woman for whom he had bought expensive gifts, according to Merrill's best friend. Merrill and Rachid exchanged dozens of calls, e-mails and photographs, often enlisting Rachid's 18-year-old daughter as a translator. Rachid was 41, from an upper-middle-class family that was in the real estate business. "I thought, `This is going a little fast,' but I didn't want to sound critical," said Merrill's sister, Marcia Sanchez Loebick. The warning signs were obvious to Merrill's friend of nearly 30 years. Merrill gave Rachid $10,000 to start a skin care clinic and bought her a $20,000 sport utility vehicle. She complained it wasn't a fancier, more expensive model, Rauch said. "This from a man who was tightfisted," Rauch said. "Ray and I would go out and I'd have to buy all the beers. All of a sudden, he's lavishing all these gifts and money on a relationship he's not even close to consummating. "I said, `Ray, these are so many red flags. I can't believe you're pursuing this,"' Rauch said. "He would just slough it off. He'd say, `She's just a passionate and emotional Latina.' What do you say to a guy like that?" Merrill visited Rachid twice in Sao Jose dos Campos, an industrial city about 60 miles from Sao Paulo. Both times he stayed a week longer than planned. Both times he notified Rauch, who then drove to Merrill's home in San Bruno to water the plants and collect the mail. On the third trip, Merrill again overstayed his return, but this time he didn't call Rauch to let him know. Loebick, who lives in Cleveland, said she sent her brother repeated e-mails warning him that their 86-year-old father was dying, but got no response. She and Rauch's best friend called police in California to report him missing. What happened to Merrill was more awful than either could have imagined. Sometime after he arrived on March 21, Rachid and her real boyfriend, Nelson Siqueira Neves, drugged Merrill, kept him in a room in Rachid's house, and drained his bank accounts, stealing about $200,000 in all, according to Merrill's sister and Brazilian authorities. Then, on April 1 - the day he was scheduled to return to California - they hired Evandro Celso Augusto Ribeiro for $5,600 to help kill him and set fire to the corpse, according to investigators. Authorities found the scorched remains but could not identify the victim, and buried the body in a pauper's grave. But then Rachid - to raise money to pay off the hit man - took part in the holdup of a black-market money changer, and accidentally left her purse behind, investigators say. The money changer went to police and turned over the purse, which contained Merrill's credit card. Hours later, Rachid showed up at the same police station to report her purse stolen. Police arrested her on the spot. The alleged hit man soon told authorities what happened to Merrill, investigators said. Rachid and Ribeiro are in custody, charged with armed robbery followed by death. Rachid's boyfriend was questioned by police in early October but was released under a Brazilian law that says no one can be arrested in the days immediately before and after an election, investigators said. Now he cannot be found. "I feel a really terrible sense of loss," said Merrill's best friend. "You expect to lose your parents. But you don't expect one of your best friends to die." Kim Curtis reported from San Bruno, Calif., and Stan Lehman reported from Sao Paulo, Brazil. 10/31/06 13:29 EST This obviously is not a question. It was posted after I received a request for the info via email. I hope this helps all of us online users make smart decisions when it comes to the questions on the safety of online dating. EXODUS- an eco-tourism expedition company. You are a representative from Exodus Travel Company. You have just started operating in Brazil and have put together a number of eco-tourism expeditions in the Amazon rainforest. Your costumers are mainly for Western Europe and the USA and all your trips are designed to minimise the impact of the forest and its wildlife. You employ over 100 local people as guides and helpers and some of the money you make is used in projects designed to preserve and protect the rainforest enviroment. Your viewpoint is that you provide a sustainable and money-making alternative to many of the other economic activities in the forest that you see destroying the rare rainforest enviroment. please help thank you

Which City In Asia has the best gay scene?
Which City In Asia has the best gay scene?
My heterosexual friend wants to go to Asia and mack on some chicks.. but I am gay and I want to go to a city that has a fun gay scene (think Sao Paulo Brazil). My friend is suggesting Manila, Bangkok, and Tokyo. My online research makes Tokyo and Manila seem kind of lame. Bangkok sounds more fun but still not that great (I am not into money boys and paying for sex).. So the question is what is the best gay city in Asia?

I have a made up drug trafficking story and I need to know the consequences if it were true?
I have a made up drug trafficking story and I need to know the consequences if it were true?
Let's say I was at some night club in Miami and some guy came up to me and said, "Hey you wanna make some money?" He would tell me that I'd get 50 grand for delivering cocaine from Brazil back to Miami. He'd also give me 10 grand extra in advance so I can have fun for a few days in Brazil. So let's say I'm in Brazil, I've had my fun with money that isn't mine for a few days, but now the real reason I was there is becoming very really. I'm taken by men and given drugs. They tell me exactly what I have to do and they don't treat me nice anymore. I tie the cocaine to my body and I'm off to the airport. Instead of saying, "Okay, I have to do this. I have to get through security", I go to the police in the airport and tell them I have to talk in private. I'd say I was forced to put these drugs on my body. I'd show them the drugs and tell them I was just a tourist, but was held hostage and had to do this and was held hostage and told I would be killed if I didn't listen. What would happen to me? What the police still consider me a drug trafficker, even though I willingly gave my self up and said this to them?

You certainly would be a drug trafficker in this scenario, but the police, prosecutors and courts might be willing to let you off if you were able to provide information that helped them catch and convict the people who hired you. By the way, you're being overpaid in this story. There's a whole lot of drug trafficking where I live (on the U.S./Mexico border), and the drug gangs pay the "mules" who carry the drugs a few hundred dollars per trip, or a couple of thousand at most.

THe police would be the least of your worries. You just took monies out of the Hands of a drug cartel. They do not take this well .This answer I am going to give is not a made up senerio.Depending on which Group of individuals you chose to piss off. They will kill you, your, family, even your family pet.Why you would think of this is beyound me.
