Planning on moving from states to brazil, any suggestions....?
Well, I was married for 12 years to brazilian woman. Have a 9 year old son. I want to move to Brazil by myself, and my son will come and stay with me for lengthy periods of time. I also am chatting with many Brazilian people online just to try and make contacts. I also have a "girlfriend", but we're just starting to hit it off, and it's great. Most of all I want a better quality of life than what I have seen here. And I ain't talking about the money, I'll get by. Any ideas, suggestions, or pitfalls. Maybe just a cheers, and go for it buddy! Thanks guys. Also I'm planning on moving to Minas Gerais, medium sized city (100,000) Portuguese is excellent. Thanks for the encouragement!

I am planning a trip to Brazil for Capoeira (Angola) and learning Portuguese. Any ideas?
Hello, I am an American girl planning to travel to Brazil for 6-8 months (depending on how long I can afford to stay) alone. My plan is to seriously study Capoeira (Angola) and find a Portuguese tutor or take some classes.I would need to find an apartment as well. I would love to move to the eastern part of the country (maybe Recife or Salavdor da Bahia) or any place where I can make friends and where I wont really need a car. I really hope embrace the culture there, learn Portuguese and play Capoeira. Does anyone have any ideas about how I should proceed to plan my trip? I am planning to go in August/ September. I really don't want to fall into a tourist trap because I don't have time or money for that. Thanks for any advice you may have. Ombrigada!

You may want to consider a hostel. And just FYI, Recife and Salvador is the Northeast of Brazil. :)

You should talk to a mestre. Preferably one who is from Brazil. They can give you good tips about how to live there & also how to stay safe.

Try yahoo brazil, there you may find more answers. I live at Salvador, you can find Capoeira here everywhere. Salvador is the brazilian african city. You can find good places here too. Rent an appartament isn't expensive. If you want further information, my email is danzevedo@gmail.com Good luck!

If you know any spanish, then learning portuguese will be alot easier to learn (read, at least).

Biotechnology or Gastronomy?

Biotechnology or Gastronomy?
I live in Brazil, and i have a doubt regarding my career path. I believe this whole kitchen thing is my passion, but people say you won't make money by doing so (at least they do here in Brazil). My parents and family tell me to choose biotech. This course would be free here, while gastronomy is paid. I have no support from my relatives, and it kind of lets me down as well. what do i do? I would appreciate if you could explain the answers a bit. thanks in advance.

Can anyone help me with my planned move to Brazil?

Can anyone help me with my planned move to Brazil?
Oi! I want to move to Brazil in to become fluent in portuguese and to experience the culture and life there more. I would even consider living there permanently if i could find work. I did a study abroad there and absolutely fell in love with the whole vibe of Brazil. I'm going back for two weeks for Carnaval this year to check out Rio and Sao Paulo (the two cities I'm considering moving to). I don't know much portuguese , but I have the rosetta stone level 1, 2, and 3 software. So hopefully I'll be at least at a conversational level by Carnaval and have a pretty good handle on the language by the time I move there. I will have my masters degree and a substantial ammount of money saved by the time I actually move there. I don't want to live off of my savings entirely so I'd like to find a way to generate income while there. I'm currently liviing and working in the UAE which is like the exact opposite of Brazil and I can't wait to leave. I will probably be in the UAE for a couple more months for financial reasons, and then I plan to finish my last semester of school in the US before moving to Brazil. So January 2010 will be the soonest i move there. I need information on the following: 1) Cost of living info (rent, transportation, and utilities) 2) Health care info (hospital and insurance) 3) Emplyment/Business opportunities in Brazil 4) Best areas to live in, and why 5) Any programs such as a lauguge or cultural exchange that would make getting a temporary residence visa easier and fit with my goals for moving there 6) General imput on life in Brazil and advice I know its alot to answer so feel free to email me. Hello, excuse my English so bad. I just want to alert this country. South American soy (for me, Brazil is South America) work in fashion. I had to travel to several cities in Brazil, I had to live in Brazil for 2 years. I suffer from depression. The worst thing in my life. Country crowded malicious, superficial, which only cares about the body and the money, full of transactions. People are generally ugly and hypocritical. What you see on TV is nothing more than advertising. The holidays are horrible, just prostitution .. only electronica, no other type of music! horrible food .. assaults, bored .. We are never feel at home. IS THE PLACE OF THE EARTH less welcoming................

Stay away of Rio and São Paulo. You should visit Fortaleza, Aracaju, João Pessoa... You don´t need to be worried about hospitals and places to stay or where to eat, because it´s very easy to have access to these services here. Vitória is extremely beautiful. Unfortunatelly, one of our best cities, Florianopolis, suffered the same tragedy that happened in New Orleans. Curitiba, Brasília, and the countryside of São Paulo´s state are very confortable and beautiful. The girl above is spanish, and there was a diplomatic war between Spain and Brazil, because they treat us as criminals. They´re stupids.
