Who invented the alphabet?

Who invented the alphabet?
I was thinking about it the other day, and the alphabet is a great invention. Who invented it. Someone told me it was the latin alphabet, so maybe in mexico or brazil? Does someone own the copyright cuz they could make alot of money off it since everyone uses it everyday.

some smart arse

it is diferent in many countries as you now it and diferent in other languages with a few diferences, nobody invented it it is based on latin and greek alphabet, then each language took the letters they needed according to the thing that controls the languages, well that's what i think
3 :
The ancient Egyptians had an alphabet that consisted of 24 letters.
4 :
It is true that the form of the alphabet we use, along with most of Europe, is the "Latin" alphabet. But it had nothing at all to do with South America. In fact, the Romans, who first used these specific letters, did NOT invent the system. It actually goes back several stages before them. It goes like this: the ancient Romans borrowed from the Etruscans who borrowed from the Greeks who borrowed it from Phoenician merchants who inherited it, along with many other Semitic-language groups in and around Syria-Palestine (including the Hebrews). The earliest forms of this SEMITIC alphabet go back to almost 2000 B.C. We think that it was first used by Semitic people on the borders of Egypt (in the Sinai Penninsula, perhaps) under the rule and influence of the Egyptians. The best guess may be that they took inspiration from ONE part of the complex Egyptian system (hieroglyhpics) -- specifically, a set of signs developed from writing foreign names. By the way, the very NAME "alphabet" points to its origins. We get that word from the Greek letters "alpha" and "beta" -- the first two letters of their alphabet. But these names meant NOTHING IN Greek. Rather, the Greeks borrowed many of the letter names from the Phoenicians along with the letters. The first two letters of the Semitic alphabet were "aleph" and "beth", which mean "ox" and "house". The SOUND that these letters represent is the first sound in those words. Actually, you can pick up many English dictionary and find as the first entry under each letter a history of that letter, its names, etc., and you may also find a chart showing how the ancient Semitic letters gradually changed to the shapes we recognize in the Latin alphabet.
5 :
Greeks took the Phoenician alphabet, which contained only consonants, and combined it with Aramaic signs, which were used in order to transcribe the Greek vowel sounds: A (alpha), E (epsilon), O (omirkon) and Y (upsilon). I (iota) was an innovation. The result was the Greek alphabet from which Latin, Coptic, Armenian and Georgian alphabets derive.

I think that you are a little behind in the school. In the first term, which alphabet ? The Latin, the Greek, the Cyrillic, the Arabic, the Chinese or which one ? Many people have been involved in it for a very loooong time. We might begin with the Egyptians, who used a symbolic writing, but became extinct. Then came the Sumerians, with a writing on clay tablets made with symbols like |||, ¯. Later the Greek made their alphabet, from which came the Latin one, and the Cyrillic, used by the Russians and the Bulgarians . Now, regarding the Latin alphabet ( the one we use in most of the world ), the Romans, 20 centuries ago, dominated most of Europe, and therefore, that is the alphabet that languages from European origin use. Thus, it was the Romans, 25 centuries ago, who invented our alphabet. Sorry. It wasn't Mexico nor Brazil. About the Arabian , the Chinese, Farsi writings I don't have much information. Sorry. I can say, nevertheless, that the Chinese writing ( used also by the Japanese, with some modifications ) does not represent letters, but words. In Chinese, words are very short, and thus, they can be represented by these characters. No, when the alphabet ( the one we use nowadays in the USA ) was invented, nobody used copyright. They were better times

Do you think doctors in the USA are worse than doctors in other countries?

Do you think doctors in the USA are worse than doctors in other countries?
I have visited doctors in several countries, but I never witnessed doctors as arrogant and careless as doctors in the USA. It seems they are trained to completely ignore the patient, make snap judgements, and get you out of the office...seems they care only about money...they take no pride in their actual work, just their pay checks. I have visited doctors in Switzerland, German, Brazil, Jamaica, Ukraine, Canada, and Costa Rica, and I did not see this kind of behavior...What do you guys think?

I cannt speak for all countries, but American doctors are mostly concerned about $$$$$$ and getting respect from the public. I feel American medical schools have failed in picking good candidates.
2 :
Only the doctors from Kenya that only had to take 6 years of college to get their license to practice medicine.
3 :
all they care about is MONEY$$$$$ and not helping other people so i would rate them 2 of 10 and other rescue places such as RSPCA id rate them 8 of 10 so id say they have the worst service in the world so i hate them
4 :
it could have possibly just been the doctors in america that you met. i've only ever had 2 that were careless. i do agree though that some only care about the money. but you'll come across one that trully cares here and there.
5 :
The doctors in the U.S. are by far the best in the world. People from all over the world come to the United States for treatment they can not get in their home countries. This includes the richest people and even heads of state from countries which are not on friendly terms with the U.S. I have never known anyone who has gone to as many doctors in so many countries as you have. I'm not trying to be disrespectful but are you sure you perception of doctors in the U.S is based on the performance of the doctors and not your attitude? As for me I'm glade I grew up in the U.S. where I was able get excellent medical care. It looks now like that may be a thing of the past, but it was great while it lasted.
6 :
Health Care situations and $$$$$$.
7 :
Yes you are right about a lot of the US doctors. Especially private practice ones. I Think that Doctors from other countries have a more controlled environment. or so I've heard. Like Canada that has a health care system for everyone. The Doctors take more time with the Patients so that they can take care of everything in one Visit. While here Doctors control their own surroundings
8 :
i have always had good doctors it like anything you have to shop around

One day left, I need to make up my decision tonight!?

One day left, I need to make up my decision tonight!?
ok so I was dating this guy who had his heart broken so much by a 31 year old attorney woman who cheated on him with a 60 year old rich wacko from brazil. This guy is 29 years old and I am 23. I was working for him and realized I was hired mainly to help him with his issues, like a distraction or something. I felt so much butterflies for this guy and one I gave my two week notice and decided to quit because I felt used. I felt he wanted me to be around the picture to make it look like he was with someone since his ex filed against him for so much crap but mainly it was to take his money. I haven't seen him in nearly two weeks because I have been working in a new project since I am an entrepreneur. He wants to see me to talk to me and I am so hurt. I finally said ok to tmrw dinner. I have no idea what he wants to talk to me about but it hurts so bad inside that I don't even want to hear what he has to say. He made me feel as if I was lying to him all the time and I was so honest with him, I would even clean his office every week because I am a perfectionist. I felt I was so good and I was crushed. I know he's not a bad person and perhaps he realized he has done wrong but I really feel hurt and I don't think I want to go thru more of it. Should I see him tomorrow or just call it final. It felt so good to be in his arms but now I am hurt and I don't want to be hurting even more. Part of me wants to but the other part of me doesn't. Please give your honest opinion, I need to make up my mind tonight!

nothing wrong with dating him. yeah, he hurt you. but you still care about him. second chances aren't such a bad thing. of course he might just be using you to get over her. not a bad thing. he might really have feelings for you. at 23, why not take a chance.
2 :
You really feel hurt and you don't want to go through more of it. I think you answered your own question. It sounds as if you made a wise choice when you left that situation two weeks ago. Why second guess yourself?
3 :
I've found in life that if we usually go with our FIRST instincts we are usually rite. It's when we start to second guess ourselves we get all confused & mixed up. You didn't make your decision based on an anger issue that could confuse you after you've cooled off so to speak. You made the decision to avoid being hurt. That chance of being hurt again is still there. Therefore it's being done to protect you. I would say your decision is a valid one as you still could be taking the same chance of being hurt again which of course you do not want to do. So in this case I would stick to my first instincts & go with my decision I made to protect myself. IF you went & saw him again you would do nothing but get yourself all confused again & back where you started from. You would be doing nothing but going on your emotions instead of your intellect. (If I'm making any sense to you). Another thing I always said was to keep my "I" over my "E"...my intellect over my emotions. When we let our emotions take over we're letting our feelings rule instead of using our minds. This too would apply to your situation. So if any of this makes sense to you, I'd go with my first decision & not confuse myself. You're young, you'll meet many more men in your lifetime. Give yourself a fair chance to meet the rite one for you. Think about it & I believe you'll get your answer loud & clear...I do wish you the best, honey, & know you'll be OK...:)

Spell "fantasy" right first.
2 :
hmmph, your best bet to make that much money is say screw the army, put five dollars in your bank account and cryogenically freeze yourself for 1000 years and collect on the billions of dollars of accumulated interest when you wake up. Plus you won't just have an island, you'll have an entire planet!
3 :
Please, ignore those smart_asses who before me. As a pilot, maybe you will be shot down in future war with North Korea and you will look like a fool (dead, also). You can make your dream come true in many ways. First, don't plan your life by how much money you will make. Is bad for you. You don't have to own an island to enjoy it. Do you own sun or snow? Do you enjoy those? You will change your mind first time you will find the right girl. Then, she will tell you you what you want and need. :) Keep dreaming! Is good for you.
