Why are we giving U.S. farm subsidies to Brazil's cotton farmers?
A lot of Americans are aware that their tax dollars subsidize cotton farmers. However, it’s unlikely that many Americans are aware that their tax dollars are now supporting cotton farmers in Brazil. Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) calls it “the single stupidest public policy I have ever encountered.†In June 2010, the U.S. struck a deal with Brazil to make monthly payments of $12.275 million on top of two one-time payments of $30 million and $4.3 million. Total U.S. payments to Brazil should reach $157 million by the end of this month. Brazil, under the agreement, is responsible for making sure the money is spent only on improving the country's cotton sector. http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/us-farm-subsidiesfor-brazil It's bad enough that we're subsidizing our own corporate conglomerates, something I'm apposed to. It's even worse to discover that we're now subsidizing Brazil and possibly others that we're not even aware of. How do you feel about your tax dollars being used against you?

I think we should help who we can AFTER we help our own first.So it makes me angry.

Without reading the article, just commenting off the top of my head based on what I know about Brazil's unemployment relating to the destruction of the rainforests in Brazil -- I'd have to say it's worth it to keep the planet's lungs working.

idk but this is one of many things the US needs to stop entirely or change. for this one, stopping entirely. its ok i think our gov's days are numbered because the citizens are already sick of theyre transparent bs so this cant & wont last forever.
